What we excluded (and why)
- Affinity Publisher / QuarkXPress as “IDML peers”—they are separate DTP ecosystems; they are not standard IDML delivery paths for InDesign shops.
What “IDML delivery” means here
- Producing
.idml(often plus font assets) for InDesign import. - K2F does not treat IDML as editable source (
IDML_IS_NOT_A_SOURCE).

Adobe InDesign
- Professional layout and File → Export to IDML for interchange.
- Limitations: Not agent-native; semantic IDs live in your workflow discipline, not in LLM defaults.
Template ecosystems
- Envato Elements, StockInDesign, and similar marketplaces ship IDML-centric business templates (see also K2F Gallery vs template market comparisons).
- Limitations: Licenses; merging agent-generated data still takes designer time.
AI-native tools (expectations)
Gamma, Manus, and similar tools usually ship PPT/PDF/web first. Use them for speed, then K2F → IDML or designer rebuild when InDesign is mandatory.
K2F
- What it is:
k2f export-idmldraws the published lock (exporting InDesign). - Package layout (default): Output folder with
{stem}.idmlbesideDocument Fonts/so InDesign can open without immediate missing-font dialogs—or a.zipof that tree. --idml-only: Writes a lone.idmlwithout embedded fonts; faces must already be installed or fonts will be missing.- Reflow: Slight text reflow in InDesign is expected and allowed (same family as DOCX/PPTX exports).
- Boundaries:
IDML_IS_NOT_A_SOURCE—do not round-trip IDML edits back into K2F semantics. - Agent fit: “Agent writes content → designer opens IDML package” without re-keying body copy.
Choosing a path
- Brand in InDesign → designers own
.indd; agents supply K2F → IDML or Word for legal. - No print shop → PDF/PPTX may suffice.
- Template-driven reports → marketplace IDML + data merge, or K2F Gallery close to your master.
Bottom line
IDML is professional interchange, not a casual export. K2F targets teams that need a compiler path into InDesign—not a replacement for final imposition.
